Richard E. Thompson age 76 of Woodhull, Il died Thursday October 1, 2009
in his home.

Services are 1:00 PM Monday at the United Church of Woodhull. Burial is in the Alpha Cemetery. Visitation is from 3 - 7 PM Sunday at the Peterson Wallin Knox Funeral Home in Woodhull, where a memorial fund will be established. Online condolences can be made at www.petersonwallinknox.com.

He was born March 9, 1933 in New Windsor, Il a son of Robert and Dorothy Swanson Thompson. He attended the New Windsor schools and married Patsy Holdsworth. He later married Jean Norberg Hambleton June 20, 1980 in Woodhull.

He was a U.S. Navy Veteran

Richard farmed in his early days and worked at the Hazel Dell Coal Mine. He was then employed as a dozer operator for Cowser Construction in Woodhull and later drove a truck for the Pruitt Trucking Company in New Windsor. He retired in 1999 as Master Mechanic for the Cleveland Illinois Rock Quarry.

His memberships include the United Church of Woodhull and the Teamsters Union. He enjoyed hunting , fishing , gardening and tinkering around the house.

Survivors include his wife, Jean; 2 daughters, Teri Thompson of Aledo; Cindy Thompson of St. Louis; 3 sons, Rick (Linda) Thompson of Alpha; Randy Thompson of Galesburg; Roger (Cindy) Thompson of Columbus, NE; step-daughter Roxanne (Brent) Bringolf of Woodhull; sep-sons, Gordon Hambleton of Alpha; Joel (Tammy) Hambleton of Ottawa; Gary Hambleton of Greenwood, IN; 26 grandchildren; 8 great grandchildren; 2 sisters, Eileen DeFrieze of New Boston; Darlene Swanson of Beantown, IN; 6 brothers Roger of Texas; Russell of Cambridge, IL.; Ronnie of Galva; Jerry of Joy; .Bob of New Windsor and several nieces and nephews.

His parents 1 granddaughter and a brother Larry preceded him in death.
