Jensen, Lyman M.
Mr. Lyman M. Jensen, 68, of 3333 Sunset Lane, Galesburg, IL, died at 6:35 PM Sunday, October 18, 2009 at Methodist Medical Center, Peoria, IL.

He was born on October 12, 1941 in Iron Mountain, MI to Russell and Dorothy Cole Jensen. He married Bonnie Olson, she preceded in death in 1974. He then married Connie L. Rouland Landon on June 22, 1976 in Galesburg. She survives.

Also surviving are three daughters, Lori (and Steve) Dredge, Lana Almaguer and Sherri (and Jeff) Kremer, all of Galesburg; one son Mike (Lori) Landon of Galesburg; a brother, Norman (and Carol) Jensen of Green Bay, WI; seven, grandchildren, Jennifer Landon, Jason Chaney, Cole Almaguer, Megan Dredge, Luke Almaguer, Dylan Landon and Alissa Kremer; two step-grandchildren, Nic Bailey and Justin Bailey; and two great-grandchildren, Draek Chaney and Mackenzie Landon. He was preceded in death by a sister, Agnes Cross.

He was a 1959 graduate of Goodman (WI) High School and was Class Valedictorian. He graduated from of Michigan Technological University, Houghton, MI in 1964 with a degree in Civil Engineering. He was an Eagle Scout. He lived 40 years in Galesburg.

Lyman began working with the Colorado Dept. of Transportation. In 1971, he was hired as a Civil Engineer for the City of Galesburg. In 1977, he was promoted to the Director of Public works. At four times he served the City as the Acting City Manager. Within his 30 years he was involved with a number of projects for the city: Farnham Street Bridge, Linwood Road and Carl Sandburg Drive by the Mall, County Highway 10 bridge over the BN Hump Yards, Losey Street Subway, additional wells at Oquawka, standby generators at Oquawka and Galesburg for the Water Division, purchasing and clearing of the Manyx Property at Lake Storey, the Bike Path around Lake Storey and many improvements to Bunker Links. He retired in 2000.

He was a member of the Sunrise Rotary Club, the City of Galesburg Planning Commission, the Railroad Days Committee, National Society of Professional Civil Engineers, American Public Works Association, American Water Works Assoication and IL Municipal League Public Works Committee. He volunteered for the United Way, Chamber Environment Task Force, Streets and Highways Committee, Xmas in April and Adopt-a-Park. He received the Tom Herring award. He enjoyed fishing, woodworking and attending his grandchildrens sporting events. He was also an avid Green Bay Packer fan.

Funeral services will be 10:00 am Friday, October 23, 2009 at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel with Rev. Daniel Siems officiating. Visitation will be from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM Thursday, October 22, 2009 at the Chapel. Burial will be in East Linwood Cemetery. Memorials may be made in Lyman's name to establish a scholarship fund.
