Stockham, Richard L. "Dick"
Richard L. "Dick" Stockham, 79 of Galesburg and formerly of Prairie City and Abingdon, died at 4:15 pm Monday, October 19, 2009 at Galesburg Cottage Hospital.

He was born on January 14, 1930 in Abingdon to John M. and Helen L. (Trout) Stockham. He married Dorothy Davis on June 22, 1948 at the Abingdon Christian Church Parsonage. She preceded him in death on November 9, 2008. He was also preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Betty Johnson.

Dick is survived by his children, Jean Twiss of Abingdon, John (and Cheryl) Stockham of Molalla, OR, Susan Czapla of Davenport, IA and Nancy (and Steve) Hall of Galesburg; 13 grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren; a sister, Joanne (and Ron) Batson of Abingdon.

He grew up in Abingdon and attended Abingdon Schools. He had lived in Galesburg since October of 2008 and prior to that had lived in Prairie City for 52 years. He worked several years as the superintendent at the Abingdon Rock Company and later at Colchester Stone before retiring.

He was of the Christian Faith. He was a member of Avon Harmony Masonic Lodge #253, the Peoria Consistory. He was a Shriner and a member of the Mohammed Temple in Peoria.

His hobbies included history, reading, "people watching," and riding country roads with his dogs, Anna & Jade. He was an inventor and a "Mr. Fix It" and could make or find a solution to many of his family needs. He was very devoted to his wife and family.

Funeral service will be at 11:00 am Saturday, October 24, 2009 at the Hinchliff-Pearson-West Abingdon Chapel. Rev. Paul Dinges will officiate. Burial will be in the Abingdon Cemetery. There will be no visitation.
