Benson, Arthur J.
Arthur J. "Bud" Benson, age 85, of Galesburg, Illinois, died at 9:40 A.M. on Thursday, October 22, 2009, at Galesburg Cottage Hospital in Galesburg, Illinois.

He was born on November 18, 1928 in Galesburg, Illinois, the son of Arthur M. and Blanche N. Haun Benson.

He married Beverly J. Windom on October 29, 1948 in Galesburg, Illinois.

She preceded him in death on September 5, 2007.

Surviving are:
Sons: Rick (Kim) Benson of Alexis, Illinois; Terry "Stroker" Benson of Galesburg, Illinois; Randy Benson of Galesburg, Illinois;

Grandchildren: Bill Benson of Monmouth, Illinois; Chris Bickerton of Alexis, Illinois; Erin Bickerton of Galesburg, Illinois.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; and a sister: Betty Mentzer.

He was reared and educated in Galesburg, Illinois.

He worked for Illinois Power Company in Galesburg, Illinois for 20 years.

Later he worked as a welder on high-pressure gas lines out of Plumbers and Pipefitters Local # 25. He and his wife managed the Bridlecreek Shell Station in Galesburg, Illinois for several years. He was of the Christian Faith. He was a member of the Alpha Masonic Lodge #155, AF & AM of Galesburg, Illinois and the former Alexis Masonic Lodge.

He had a life long love of the outdoors. He loved fishing, hunting, motorcycle, stock car and go-cart racing, all of which he excelled at in his younger days.

Cremation Rites will be accorded.

Graveside Memorial Services well be held on Tuesday, October 27, 2009 at 11:00 AM at the Oak Lawn Memorial Gardens in Galesburg, Illinois. Rev. Thomas Ek officiating.

There will be no visitation. Memorials may be made to the Blackhawk Division of the Illinois State Police Association.

Hurd-Hendricks Funeral Homes and Crematory in Knoxville, Illinois in charge of arrangements.
