|Rita L. Kinkaid, 99, of Monmouth died at 9:30 P.M. Sunday, October 25, 2009, at the Community Care Center of Monmouth.
She was born August 21, 1910 east of Gerlaw in Kelly Township, Warren Co., Illinois, the daughter of Oscar Gad and Lottie Garrett (Robison) Niles. She was reared and educated in Warren County attending Science Hall School and Monmouth High School.
Rita married Frank Allan "Dutch" Kinkaid in Davenport, Iowa on January 7, 1928 and he died Nov. 17, 1976.
Rita and Dutch farmed in the Fall Creek Community for several years before moving to Monmouth in 1953. She was a homemaker and was employed by Axline Pharmacy, Beaty's, F.W. Woolworth, Ford Hopkins and Melings Restaurant. She owned and operated Mode O'Day Shop in Monmouth.
She was a member of the Gerlaw Christian Church and a former member of the Costello Apartment Residents Organization, Little York and Monmouth Rebekah Lodges, the Puritan and Cavalier DAR and the Fall Creek Methodist Church..
Survivors include her son, Richard (Shirley) Kinkaid of Rock Island, IL; 2 daughters, Lynne (Larry) Devlin of Gerlaw and Sharon Anderson of Cartersville, IL; 10 grandchildren; 29 great grandchildren; great great grandmother to 16; daughter in law, Betty Kinkaid of Gerlaw.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband; one son, Wayne Kinkaid; 2 grandchildren; 3 sisters and 3 brothers.
Funeral services will be 11:00 A.M. Wednesday, Oct, 28, 2009 at the Gerlaw Christian Church with Pastor Paul Lydic officiating. Burial will be in Warren County Memorial Park, Monmouth. Friends may call one hour prior to the services at the church. Memorials may be given to the Gerlaw Christian Church. Hoover-Hall Memorial Chapel, Monmouth is in charge of the arrangements.
