Leroy Colwell, 67, of 205 N. Cedar St. Abingdon, IL died 8:35 PM Tuesday October 27, 2009 at OSF St. Mary Medical Center, Galesburg.
He was born March 19, 1942 in Table Grove, IL to Jessie Ray and Gertie Hitz Colwell. He married Sandy K. DeJaynes September 25, 1962 in Galesburg. She survives.
Also surviving are 2 sons Jeff (and Belinda) Colwell of Mediapolis, IA and Mike Colwell of Abingdon, a daughter Shawn (and Willy) McDorman of Abingdon, 2 brothers Carl (and Ollie) Colwell of Abingdon and Fred (and Bev) Colwell of Abingdon, a sister Margaret Green of De Long, IL and 9 grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister Mary Bowton.
Leroy was a carman for Burlington Northern Railroad. He was a Vietnam Army veteran. He enjoyed spending time with his family, playing croquet, cars and collecting coins. He lived in Abingdon most of his life.
Funeral service will be 11:00 AM Monday November 2, 2009 at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Abingdon Chapel with Rev. Rick Smith officiating. Visitation will be 5:00 - 8:00 PM Sunday November 1, 2009 at the chapel. Burial will be in Abingdon Cemetery with Military Rites by Harry E. Wiles American Legion Post 381.
