Marvel, Eldon Earl
Eldon Earl Marvel, age 86, of Knoxville, Illinois, died on Friday, October 15, 2010 at 10:18 A.M. at OSF St. Mary Medical Center in Galesburg, Illinois. He was born on December 11, 1923 in Fulton County, Illinois, the son of Harry and Josephine Keefauver Marvel. He married Leora Mulhearn on April 4, 1946 in Canton, Illinois. She preceded him in death on November 23, 1991.

Surviving are two sons, Gary (Sandy Havens) Marvel of Knoxville, Illinois and Robert (Sally Ann Moore) of Florida; one daughter, Lynne (Kevin Hall) Gray of Galesburg, Illinois; four grandchildren; six great grandchildren; one sister, Shirley "Elouise" Mitchell of Canton, Illinois and a special friend, Dortha Jordan of Ottumwa, Iowa. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; and two brothers: Howard and Marvin.
He was raised and educated in Fairview, Illinois graduating from the Fairview High School in 1941. He served in the United States Army in France during World War II from March 1943 until January 1946. He worked for Fulton Service in Fiatt, Illinois as a painter for over 20 years; then as a truck driver for Dohrn Transfer in Galesburg, Chicago and Peoria, Illinois until he retired in 1986. He then helped farm on the Moffitt Family Farm, for Russell, Don and Justin. He was a member of the Harry W. Philblad American Legion Post # 749 of Knoxville, Illinois.

Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday, October 19, 2010 at 10:00 A.M. at the Hurd Hendricks Funeral Home and Crematory in Knoxville, Illinois. Rev. Peter Wehrly officiating. Visitation will be held on Monday, October 18, 2010 from 6:00 until 8:00 PM at the Hurd Hendricks Funeral Home and Crematory in Knoxville, Illinois. Burial in Knoxville Cemetery in Knoxville, Illinois with Military Rites conducted by Ralph M. Nobel American Legion Post # 285 of Galesburg, Illinois. Memorials may be made to Knox County Nursing Home and Rehabilitation Center in Knoxville, Illinois.
