Carlson, Dean C.
Mr. Dean C. Carlson, 82, of 824 E. First St. Galesburg, IL, died at 5:35 am Sunday, October 17, 2010 in OSF St. Mary Medical Center.

He was born October 28, 1927 in Galesburg the son of Forrest A. and Vaun Nelson Carlson. He married Virginia Hillen on May 4, 1951 in Monmouth, IL She survives.

Also surviving is a daughter Linda (John) Nelson of LaFayette, IL; three sons Dean C., Gordon H. (Lelica) and Robert J. (Cathy) Carlson all of Galesburg; six grandchildren Nick Hampton, Jr, Andria Edens, Erica, Patrik, Danielle and Jesse Carlson and two great grandchildren David Edens III and Abrienda Garibay-Carlson. He is preceded in death by his parents and a sister Lois Gilson.

He served in the US Army during the Korean War with Company A 835th Eng Av n BN in Mineral Wells, TX.

Dean worked at Butler Manufacturing, Burlington Truck Lines and later Waggoner's Printing Company. He volunteered as a driver for the American Red Cross and was also a blood donor. He graduated from Galesburg High School in 1946. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church. He was an avid Cub Fan. Dean enjoyed walking at the mall, meeting new people and passing out his chocolate candies.

A Memorial Service is scheduled for 11:00 am Thursday at the First United Methodist Church. Rev. Marilyn Anell will officiate. Visitation will be 5:00-7:00 pm Wednesday at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel. Cremation will be accorded. Burial will be in the Berwick Cemetery at a later date. Memorials may be made to the Knox County Chapter of the American Red Cross or to the First United Methodist Church. Online condolences may be made to www.h-p-w.com.
