|Barbara Sue McCoy, "The Purple Lady," 71, of Knoxville, died at 11:45 am Saturday, October 16, 2010 at Galesburg Cottage Hospital.
She was born on January 28, 1939 in Abingdon, the daughter of John and Catherine (Williams) Ross. She married Newt V. McCoy in 1965 at the Abingdon Christian Church.
Barbara is survived by her husband of forty-five years, Newt, one daughter, Michelle McCoy of Melbourne, Florida; one son, Newt D. McCoy of Yuma, Arizona; two granddaughters, Sara McCoy and Anna McCoy; one grandson, Kyle McCoy; one step-granddaughter, Tatyana; and several cousins.
She graduated from Abingdon High School. She was a beautician and had also worked at the Taco Bell Restaurant in Galesburg. She was a member of the Abingdon Christian Church. She had a passion for collecting Elvis memorabilia and working puzzles. She loved her family, especially her grandchildren.
Funeral service will be held at 2:00 pm Wednesday, October 20, 2010 at the Hinchliff-Pearson-West Abingdon Chapel. Mrs. Eleanor Landon will officiate. Burial will follow in the Abingdon Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour before the service on Wednesday at the chapel.
Memorials may be made to the St. Jude Children's Hospital.
