Franklin, John William
John William Franklin, age 74, of Galesburg died at 6:55 pm Wednesday, October 5, 2011 at OSF Saint. Francis Medical Center in Peoria.

He was born on July 26, 1937 in Macomb, the son of Donald L. and Mabel (Orwig) Franklin. He married Audrey Courson on June 22, 1957 in Burlington, Iowa. She survives.
John is also survived by two sons, Tom (and Cindy) Franklin of London Mills and Steve (and Sue) Franklin of Abingdon; one daughter, Peggy (and Shawn) Ware of San Diego, California; five grandchildren, Emilee Franklin, Racheul Malcom, Amanda Franklin, Jonathan Lamica and Tyler Eppley; four great-grandchildren; and one adopted brother, Keith Franklin.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two infant sisters.

He grew up in Abingdon and graduated from Abingdon High School in 1955. He worked as a self-employed contractor. He had also worked at Gates Rubber Company and along with his wife, owned and operated the Grand Roller Rink in Galesburg for 16 years. He had lived in Galesburg the past 24 years. He was of the Methodist Faith. He loved fishing, especially at Steves pond, and spending time with his family.

He was a Mason and was a member in the Knoxville Pacific Masonic Lodge #66 and the Galesburg Masonic Lodge #155, the Tri County Club, the Scottish Rites Valley of Moline and a Grand Representative of the Grand Lodge of Costa Rica.

Visitation will be from 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm Saturday, October 8, 2011 at the Hinchliff-Pearson-West Abingdon Chapel followed by a Masonic service by Pacific Lodge #66 and a Celebration of Life service led by Mrs. Eleanor Landon and the eulogy by Chris Postin. Cremation will be accorded following the services.
