McCarthy, Mary
Mary McCarthy, 85, of Galesburg died at 10:33 p.m. Friday September 30, 2011 in Seminary Manor.

She was born October 23, 1925 in Matherville, Ill. the daughter of Edward and Florence English Neave.She married Richard L. McCarthy on May 1, 1952 in Carthage, Ill. He preceded her in death on April 21, 1978.

She is survived by three sons, Richard L. McCarthy, Jr. and Jeffrey J. (Michelle) McCarthy, both of Galesburg and Patrick S. (Angie) McCarthy of Cameron, Ill.; a brother, John (Eva) Horan of Dallas City, Ill.; two sisters, Patricia (Richard) Bogart of Mesa, Ariz. and Annetta Andrew of Burlington, Iowa and five grandchildren, Michael McCabe, Carly J. McCarthy, Chloe J. McCarthy, Tyson Twitchel and Max McCarthy. She is preceded in death by her husband; brothers and sisters, Edward J. Neave, Dorothy (Neave) Mear, Kenneth Neave and Kathryn (Neave) Scott.

Mary worked for the former First National Bank for several years. She first served as the deputy treasurer of the city of Galesburg and later was elected as the City Treasurer, serving 19 years. She graduated from Colusa High School in 1943 and Brown's Business College. She was a member of the Altrusa Club and a Reading Buddy at Nielson School. She was a former member of the Grace Episcopal Church, a former Sunday school teacher and was involved in many luncheons at church.

Funeral services are scheduled for 10 a.m. Wednesday at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel. Rev. Craig Robertson will officiate. Visitation will be 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at the chapel. Memorials may be made to the Prairieland Animal Welfare Center or charity of the donors choice. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Online condolences may be made at www.h-p-w.com.
