|Lola Jane "Janie" Carlson, 86, of Alexis, formerly of North Henderson, died 12:05 P.M. Sunday, October 16, 2011 at her home.
She was born December 7, 1924 in Perryton Township, Mercer County, IL, the daughter of Elmer and Avice (Wood) Babcock. She was raised in Perryton Township and educated in Reynolds, graduating from Reynolds High School.
Lola Jane married Frederick Eugene "Gene" Carlson at the Enon Baptist Church in Aledo on June 12, 1949 and he died Sept. 1, 2003.
Lola Jane worked in accounting/bookkeeping early on at the Farm Bureau in Aledo. She later worked for OSF St. Mary Medical Center, Galesburg in the business office before retiring. She also kept the books for her husbands Excavating business.
She enjoyed reading, knitting and volunteering. She has recently retired from several years as a canteen volunteer at the Mississippi Valley Regional Blood Center, Galesburg.
Lola Jane was a member of the Zion Lutheran Church in North Henderson for 62 years where she was also a member of the LCW group. She also belonged to the Mercer County Home Extension and spent many active years with her husband in the Land Improvement Contractors Association.
Survivors include her son, Larry "Gus" (Corie) Carlson of Littleton, CO.; daughter, Sue (Bill) Barrington of Little York, IL.; grandchildren, Jamie Carlson of Galesburg, Paige, Alyssa and Matthew Carlson of Littleton, CO., Kelly (Kyle Cratty) Cheline of North Henderson, Molly Cheline of Monmouth, Julie (Troy) Reeder of Canton, Erik (Julie) Dalmasso of Monmouth; step grandchildren, Kent (Jean) Barrington of Alexis, Aaron (Julie) Barrington of Princeville; great grandchildren, Madison & Drew Reeder; step great grandchildren, Rachel, Alison and Tyler Barrington.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and daughter, Nancy M. Cheline in 1993.
Funeral services will be 10:30 A.M. Thursday, Oct. 20, 2011 at the Zion Lutheran Church in North Henderson with Rev. Beth Hamilton officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Vernon Cemetery. Friends may call from 9:30 until the time of the services at the church. Memorials may be given to the Cardinal Community Manor, 100 Simms St. Alexis, IL 61412. Hoover-Hall Memorial Chapel, Alexis is in charge of the arrangements.
