R. Irene Meeker, 98, of Alexis died at 3:50 A.M. Monday, October 17, 2011 at Rosewood Care Center, Galesburg, IL.
She was born May 18, 1913 in Burgess, IL, the daughter of Bruce and Mary Hazel (Witt) Johnston. She was raised and educated in the Burgess and Alexis areas attending Prairie Rose Grade School and graduating from Alexis High School in 1931.
Irene married William Samuel Meeker in Alexis on Jan. 22, 1938 and he died Feb. 26, 1988.
She was a homemaker and farm wife. She enjoyed sewing, crocheting, baking and cooking.
Irene was of Presbyterian faith.
Survivors include her son, Bill (Kay) Meeker of North Henderson, IL; son in law, Curt Christianson of Alexis; 5 grandchildren, Rowdy (Debbie) Meeker, Debbie (Andy) King, Sam (Susan) Meeker, Julie (Todd) Davison and Scott Christianson and 10 great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, one daughter, Mary Christianson; 2 sisters and 3 brothers.
Funeral services will be 2:00 P.M. Thursday, October 20, 2011 at Hoover-Hall Memorial Chapel, Alexis. Burial will be in Alexis Cemetery. Friends may call after 3:00 P.M. Wednesday, October 19, 2011 at Hoover-Hall Memorial Chapel, Alexis where her family will be present from 5:00-7:00 P.M. Memorials may be given to the United School District FFA.
