Patton, Dorothy Marie
Dorothy Marie Patton, age 87, passed away Saturday, October 22, 2011 at Heartland Health Care Center, Galesburg, Illinois.

She was born in Sterling, Illinois on October 4, 1924 to Samuel Newton Patton and Agnes Mattson Patton the oldest of five children. The family moved to Knoxville, Illinois when Dorothy was 7 years old. She attended Knoxville Schools, graduating with the class of 1942. She attended Brown's Business College in Galesburg. She used her excellent secretarial skills at Knox College where she worked for over 43 years in the admissions office. She enjoyed the atmosphere at Knox College making lasting friendships with staff, students and families. She also enjoyed baking breads, cookies and especially apple pie -- making her a favorite aunt and great aunt. Her nimble finger also created beautiful needlepoint and embroidering work. She enjoyed her family, home, antiques and pretty things around her. She also enjoyed her friends and playing bingo at Heartland.

She never married. She is survived by two sisters, Catherine Stinson and Ruth Brown, three nieces Linda (John) Malec and family, Paula (Michael) Homar, Julie (Rick) Kapsch and family. One nephew, Roger (Teri) Stinson and family.

She was preceded in death by her parents, infant brother, Robert Patton and brother Paul Patton in September 2010.

She was a member of Grace Lutheran Church and the WELCA when her health permitted.

The funeral service will be at 11:00 AM Wednesday, October 26, 2011 at the Hurd-Hendricks Funeral Home, Knoxville, Illinois. The Rev. Michel Clark will officiate. Friends may call one hour prior to the service on Wednesday at 10:00 AM. Burial will be in the Knoxville Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Grace Lutheran Church, Knoxville.
