Clair W. Cross, 86, of 2150 Chappell Ave., Galesburg, IL, died at 2:48 p.m. Saturday, October 29, 2011 in the Marigold Health Care Center.
Clair was born on January 2, 1925 in Alpha, Ill. to Harvey and Margery Elliott Cross. He married Velma M. Daniels on May 15, 1971 in Williamsfield, Ill.
He is survived by his wife, Velma Cross; a son, Rick (and Nita) Cross of Galesburg; two step-sons, Gary L. (and Pam) Daniels and Perry L. Cutcher, both of Galesburg; a daughter, Sandy (and Pat) Herrin of Galesburg; a sister, Alice Morris of Galesburg; three grandchildren, Tina (and Chad) Ponder of Knoxville, Ill., Tony Daniels and Traci (and Tyler) Lannholm, both of Galesburg; six great-grandchildren, Doug, Lexi, Will, Clara, Trenton, Justin, Noah and Ethan. He was preceded in death by a brother, Earl Dean Cross. Clair was a supervisor and inspector at the former Gale Products/Outboard Marine Corporation for 22 years. He then worked at Iowa Malleable for three years. He retired in 1990.
A graduate of Victoria (Ill.) High School, he enjoyed bowling, camping and traveling across the country.
Graveside services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, November 1, 2011 at Oak Lawn Memorial Gardens with Rev. Michel Clark officiating. There will be no visitation.
