|Robert L. Steinmetz, 88, of Zion, Ill. formerly of Galesburg, died 7:32 a.m. Friday, October 19, 2012 at the Rolling Hills Assisted Living Center, Zion, Ill.
Robert was born April 19, 1924 in Freeport, Ill. He was a graduate of Freeport High School. Robert retired in 1982 after 30 years of service with Outboard Marine Corporation. He was a veteran of the United States Army, having served in Europe. He was awarded The Purple Heart and 3 Bronze Stars. He was a member of American Legion Post 285 in Galesburg. Robert enjoyed golfing, bowling, wood working, gardening, and spending time with his family.
Survivors include his daughter, Rhonda (Michael) Sybrandy of Winthrop Harbor, Ill.; two grandsons, Christopher Sybrandy and Brian (Dwana) Sybrandy; and one great-grandchild, Camden Sybrandy.
He was preceded in death by his father and mother, Clyde and Amanda Steinmetz; wife, Flossie Steinmetz; granddaughter, Bethany Sybrandy; brother, Nuell Steinmetz; and sister, Marijane Steinmetz.
Graveside service will be 11:30 a.m. Thursday, October 25, 2012 at Memorial Park Cemetery, Galesburg. Military rites will be conducted by the Ralph M. Noble American Legion Post 285. Rev. Al Beck will officiate. There will be no local visitation. Online condolences may be made at h-p-w.com.
