|Wanda E. Sandberg, age 93 of Abingdon, passed away on Tuesday, October 2, 2012 at 10:20 am at the Care Center of Abingdon.
She was born May 24, 1919 in St. Augustine, the daughter of Clete and Eunice (Trulock) Smith. She married Ronald I. Sandberg on April 12, 1941 in Burlington, Iowa. He preceded her in death on January 7, 2010. She was also preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, Cleo Smith and Jerry Smith, and two sisters, Martha Jane Wall and Mary Baker.
Wanda is survived by her four daughters, Sunny (Anthony) Ezzo of Springfield, Ronda Schertz of Hartville, Ohio, Pam (John Shea) Kepple of Abingdon and Debbie (Greg) Lightbourn of Clearwater, Florida; 16 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren; and one sister, Beverly Majors of Stockton.
She grew up in St. Augustine. After her marriage, she lived in Shreveport, Louisiana, Joplin, Missouri and the Azores, while her husband was in the Air Force. She had lived most of her married life in Abingdon. She was a homemaker and had worked at Shank's Clothing Store, Elsie's Style Shop and Sta-Rite Industries in Abingdon.
Wanda had no greater love than she had for her husband of 68 years, her daughters and grandchildren. She loved to sew and play with her grandchildren.
Funeral service will be held at 11:00 am Friday, October 5, 2012 at the Abingdon United Methodist Church. Rev. Anita Munden and Mrs. Eleanor Landon will officiate. Burial will follow in the Abingdon Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm Thursday at the Hinchliff-Pearson-West Abingdon Chapel.
