|Fred J. Kelley, age 92 of Galesburg, Illinois died on Sunday, October 6, 2013 at this home in Galesburg, Illinois.
He was born on January 25, 1921 in Warren County, Illinois the son of Fred J. and May Dupoy Kelley. He attended and graduated from Monmouth High School. He married Ruby Davis on September 8, 1946 in Galesburg, Illinois, she preceded him in death on January 9, 1994. He then married Florence Rork and she preceded him in death on March 31, 2008.
Surviving is one son: Clinton (Eleanor) Kelley of Portsmouth, Virginia; one granddaughter: Megan Newsome; three great-grandchildren: Hasaan Gordon, Toray Newsome, and Destiny Newsome; one brother: John (Geraldine) Kelley of Galesburg, Illinois. He was preceded in death by his parents, wives, two brothers, Joe and Henry, one sister, Mildred.
He served in the United States Army from March of 1940 to November of 1945. He served in the Ardennes, Rhineland, and Central Europe Campaigns, receiving the Good conduct Medal, American Theater Service Medal and the European-African-Middle Eastern Theater Service Medal. He served in the 82nd Army Airborne and Illinois National Guard 123 Field Artillery.
He owned and operated H & K Standard Service Station and the corner of Grand Avenue and Knox Streets for over 20 years. He was a member of the Western Illinois Antique Auto Club, Ralph M. Noble American Legion Post of Galesburg, Illinois, and the VFW of Monmouth, Illinois.
A Graveside Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Wednesday, October 16, 2013 at Oak Lawn Memorial Gardens in Galesburg, Illinois, with military rites conducted by the Ralph M. Noble American Legion Post 285 of Galesburg, Illinois. There will be no Visitation. In-lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Honor Flights Quad Cities at Bob Morrison, 4130 Northwest Blvd., Davenport, Iowa 52806.
