Sage, Gesina W.
Gesina W. Sage, 97, formerly of 605 Yates St., Galesburg, died at 1:54 a.m. Wednesday, October 23, 2013 in Seminary Manor.

She was born October 9, 1916 in Limestone Twp., the daughter of William and Clausina (Janssen) Behrends. She married Jesse L. Sage on April 8, 1938 in St. Louis. He preceded her in death March 22, 1978.

She is survived by a son, Gary Sage of Nauvoo, Ill.; a daughter, Sharon (and Dale) Yeager of Galesburg; six grandchildren, Mike (and Michele) Yeager of Denver, Kelly (and Doug) Gau of Galesburg, Patricia (and Greg) McCrery of Atlanta, Jane (and Wayne) Keller of Deland, Fla., Steven (and Patty) Sage of Okla., and Bryan (and Michelle) Sage of Keokuk, Iowa; 12 great grandchildren, Alex and Lauren Gau of Galesburg, Mathew, Joe, and Jack Yeager of Denver, Philip and Samantha McCrery of Atlanta, Annika and Sara Keller of Deland, Cole and Chloe Sage of Keokuk, and Brandon Sage of Okla.; a brother, Henry Behrends of Peoria; three sisters, Henrietta Goetz, Mable Heneberry, and Margaret Parrish, all of Peoria; and a half-sister, Joann Lakis of Galesburg. She was preceded in death by three sisters.

Gesina was raised and educated in the Peoria area. She had lived in Galesburg since 1948. She worked for the Admiral/Maytag Corporation for 30 years, retiring in 1981. She was a member of First Lutheran Church.

Gesina was admired by all who knew her for her youthful smile and love of life. She was much loved by her family and she returned that love tenfold.

Cremation will be accorded. Visitation will be 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. Friday, October 25, 2013 at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel. Private family memorial service will follow with Rev. Pamela Marolla officiating. Memorials may be made to St. Jude Children's Hospital or Knox County YMCA. Online condolences may be made at www.h-p-w.com.
