|Marjorie A. Parrish Livingston, 99, of Oquawka, IL, died at 12:15 A.M. Thursday, November 12, 2009 at the Monmouth Nursing Home.
She was born March 16, 1910 in Oquawka, the daughter of Walt and Myrtle (Huss) Smith
At the age of 10 she drove a car with her 3 brothers and 2 sisters to Poge School, near the covered bridge south of Oquawka.
Marjorie married the "Love of Her Life" Jess C. Parrish on Sept. 20, 1926 and he preceded her in death on December 31, 1973. She married Lyle Livingston on June 3m 1975 and he preceded her in death on June 2, 1995.
She first worked as a supervisor at the Iowa Ordnance Plant during World War II from 1942 to 1944 and then was a supervisor at Formfit Co. in Monmouth for two years. In 1965 she and her husband owned and operated the Oquawka Hotel as a home for mentally disabled person for 6 years for the State Of Illinois. In 1965 they established and built the Scholtzhauer Home in Oquawka and operated it as an assisted living facility where she lived for two years prior to moving to Monmouth Nursing Home. She cared for sick people most of her life.
Her interests were bowling, fishing and quilting.
Her family includes two daughter, Bonna (Fred) Johnson of Little York and Wynona Steele of Atkinson, IL, 5 grandchildren Janice, Ronald and Larry Johnson and Robert and Linda Steele, 8 great grandchildren and two great great grandsons.
She was preceded in death by her husbands, 3 brother and 2 sisters.
Cremation will be accorded and burial of her ashes will be in Oquawka Cemetery at a later date. There are no services or visitation planned.
