|Melvin Dean Chaney, age 78, of Galesburg, Illinois died on Friday, November 20, 2009 at 8:00 A.M. at his residence.
He was born on January 18, 1931 in Pulaski, Iowa, the son of Orville and Elizabeth Radstock Chaney.
He married Beverly Joan Collins on January 16, 1952 in Knoxville, Illinois.
She survives of Galesburg, Illinois.

Sisters: Hazel Wolf of Keosauqua, Iowa and Donna Ollig of Galesburg, Illinois
Preceded in death by his parents; brother: Earl Chaney; sisters: Grace Schroder and Ruth Mavis
He was raised and educated in Iowa and Illinois graduating from the Knoxville High School in 1948.
He worked for the C B & Q Railroad from 1948 to 1951.
He served in the United States Navy from January 17, 1951 until December 8, 1954 during the Korean War as a Petty Officer Second Class. He received the Navy Occupation Medal, China Service Medal, Korean Presidential Unit Citation, National Defense Medal, Korean Medal with Two Stars and the National Service Medal.
He worked for the IBEW Local Union 34 as an electrician from 1956 until he retired in 1993. He served many years as an officer on the executive board.
He was a life member and past commander of the VFW Post #2257 in Galesburg, Illinois.
He was a life member and past master of Vesper Masonic Lodge #584, AF & AM of Galesburg, Illinois and an honorary member of the Alpha Masonic Lodge #155, AF & AM of Galesburg, Illinois and the Pacific Masonic Lodge #66, AF & AM of Knoxville, Illinois.
He was a member of the Mohammed Temple Shrine and the Consistory of Moline.
He was a member of the Knoxville United Methodist Church.
Funeral Services will be held on Monday, November 23, 2009 at 11:00 A.M. at the Hurd Hendricks Funeral Home and Crematory in Knoxville, Illinois with Rev. Robert Herath officiating.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, November 22, 2009 from 2:00 until 4:00 P.M. at the Hurd Hendricks Funeral Home in Knoxville, Illinois with Masonic Services conducted by the Alpha Masonic Lodge #155, AF & AM of Galesburg, Illinois.
Burial in Knoxville Cemetery in Knoxville, Illinois with Military Rites.
