|Allen M. Pferschy, Sr., 72, East Galesburg, IL died at 3:35 PM Tuesday November 24, 2009 in Galesburg Cottage Hospital.
He was born July 25, 1937 in Chicago, the son of Michael F. and Anna Leaf Pferschy. He married Ellen Martin on October 15, 1960 in East Galesburg. She survives.
Also surviving is a son, Allen M. Pferschy, Jr. of Galesburg, a daughter, Sue Ellen (and Mike) Davidson of Knoxville, IL, and 2 granddaughters, Hilary Davidson and Natalie Davidson, both of Knoxville. He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Tom Pferschy, and a sister, Judy Williams.
Allen was a postal clerk at the Galesburg Post Office from 1957 until his retirement in 1992. He graduated from Knoxville High School in 1956. He attended the First Christian Church of Knoxville, was a member of the East Galesburg Lions Club, and the "Rail City Ramblers." Allen served on the board of directors of the Galesburg Postal Credit Union. He enjoyed playing and coaching baseball and was an avid Chicago Cubs fan. He played on a senior softball league in Arizona. Allen also enjoyed golfing, fishing, and gardening.
He served in the United States Army from 1960 to 1962.
Cremation will be accorded. Memorial service will be 10 AM Monday, November 30, 2009 in the First Christian Church of Knoxville. The Rev. David Shreeves will officiate. There will be no visitation. Burial will be in Oak Lawn Memorial Gardens, Galesburg.
