Ross, Bill
Bill Ross, 89, of Monmouth died at 1:25 A.M. Sunday, November 29, 2009 at OSF Holy Family Medical Center, Monmouth.

He was born August 20, 1920 in Monmouth, Illinois the son of Beauford B. and Mary Elizabeth (Riner) Ross. He was raised and educated in Monmouth, graduating from Monmouth High School in 1939.

Bill served with the United States Navy during World War II in the Pacific Theater from December 1941 until October 1945. He was a WT2 on the destroyer the USS Boggs.

Bill married Marguerite Baldwin in 1948. He later married Carolyn Stoops Heatherly in Monmouth on Feb 12, 1955.

Bill worked as a plumber in Monmouth for Harry Radmacker, Sr. and Roy Buckley prior to establishing Ross Plumbing, which he owned and operated for 26 years. He retired in 1982. Bill enjoyed spending time with his family, watching sports, camping and listening to country music.

He was a 64-year member of the Monmouth American Legion Post #136, a lifetime member of the Monmouth VFW Post #2301 and belonged to the First United Methodist Church of Monmouth.

Left to honor his memory are his wife, Carolyn; three daughters, Mary (Mike) Brewers of Moline, IL, Patty Williams (Larry Krause) of Riverton, Wyoming and Laura (George) Gillen of Monmouth; one son Charles (Linda) Ross of Goosecreek, South Carolina; two step-sons, Ted (Mary) Heatherly of San Antonio, Texas and Tim (Kathy) Heatherly of Monmouth; twelve grandchildren and four great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and 2 brothers, Dean Ross and Lloyd Ross.

Funeral services will be 10:00 AM Wednesday, December 2, 2009 at Hoover-Hall Memorial Chapel, Monmouth. Burial with military honors will be in Monmouth Cemetery. Friends may call Tuesday, Dec 1, 2009 at Hoover-Hall Memorial Chapel, Monmouth where his family will be present from 5:00-7:00 P.M. Memorials may be given to the First United Methodist Church or Immaculate Conception School (ICS).
