Sterr, Catharine June Zang
Catharine June Zang Sterr, 90, of 800 N. Market St., Knoxville, IL died at 5:25 AM Monday, November 30, 2009 at the Knox County Nursing Home.

She was born on June 4, 1919 in Kewanee, IL to Peter M. and Louise Winter Zang. She married Clyde E. Sterr in Kewanee on November 26, 1968. He preceded her in death on August 16, 1990.

She is survived by two step-sons, George (and Phyllis) Sterr of Knoxville and Gene (and Ann) Sterr of Boise, ID; a step-daughter, Mable (and Taylor) Joyce of Battle Ground, WA; a step daughter-in-law, Ann Sterr of Princeville, IL; a nephew, Tom (and Ruth) Lyle of Erie, IL; a great nephew and a great-great nephew; seven grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband; a step-son, Gary Sterr, and two sisters.

Mrs. Sterr was a 1937 graduate of Kewanee High School; a 1944 graduate of Illinois State University and she received a Masters degree from the University of Illinois in 1955. She lived in Kewanee, Apache Junction, AZ and Knoxville.

She taught a year in rural schools and then taught elementary, junior high and high school for 34 years in the Kewanee School District. She was the District's first special education teacher.

She was a member of St. Peter's Evangelical United Church of Christ, Kewanee. She was a former member and president of the Kewanee Business and Professional Women's Club, the Kewanee Teachers Association where she had served as its president and the Apache Junction Public Library Board.

Funeral services will be 11:00 AM Wednesday, December 2, 2009 at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel with Rev. Michel Clark officiating. Visitation will be from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM Wednesday at the Chapel. Burial will be in East Linwood Cemetery, Galesburg.

Memorials may be made to St. Peter's Evangelical United Church of Christ, Kewanee, or Grace Lutheran Church, Knoxville.
