|Orville Calvin "O.C." Sims, 85, of 2245 N. Seminary St., Galesburg, died at 3:21 a.m. Wednesday, November 10, 2010 in Seminary Manor.
He was born January 12, 1925 in Viola, Ill., the son of Orville B. and Helen L. Johnson Sims. He married Shirley A. Ray in Joliet, Ill.
He is survived by his wife, Shirley, a son, Michael (and Valerie) Sims of Denver, Colo., a brother, Marvin L. (and Donna) Sims of Los Angeles, Calif., and a sister, Catherine Kramer of Galesburg. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Melvin and Charles Sims and a sister, Victoria Bice.
O.C. was a manager for J.C. Penney's for 30 years. He had lived in Rockford, Ill., Racine, Wis., Mexico, Mo., Osage Beach, Mo., and Sparta, Ill. He graduated from Aledo High School in 1942. He was of the Methodist faith.
O.C. served in the United States Navy from 1942 to 1945 as a Quartermaster Signalman, Second Class, during World War II. He was stationed in the South Pacific.
Graveside service will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday, November 13, 2010 in Viola Cemetery with military rites by Ralph M. Noble American Legion Post 285. Rev. James Ecklund will officiate. There will be no visitation. Memorials may be made to Disabled Veterans of America. Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
