|Dale Garman, 82, of 1076 S. Chambers St. Galesburg died at 9:40 pm Tuesday November 16, 2010 in Cottage Hospital.
He was born December 6, 1927 in Galesburg the son of Ross and Helen E. Garman. He married Dorothy L. (Dot) Griffith on June 5, 1949. She survives.
Also surviving are three daughters, Vickie Banks, Deb Friend and Susan (Steven) Duncan. He was a grandpa to four grandchildren: Kristi (John) Wethington, Kari (David) Caldwell, Jennifer (Jeramie) Crisp and Dustin (Nicke) Kistler. He was a great grandpa to nine great grandchildren: Alex and Adam Wethington, Bo and Rebekah Merritt, Mataya Caldwell, JD, Jase, and Jax Crisp and Hunter Kistler. Four siblings also survive; his twin sister Doris Luallen and a sister Florence Johnson of Galesburg and brothers Wallace Garman of Peoria and Maurice (Pete) of Campbell, Ohio. He is preceded in death by his parents and a sister Juanita and brothers Laverne and Lawrence.
Dale graduated from Galesburg High School where he lettered in wrestling. He also served in the US Army and was stationed in Japan. He worked in grocery sales, managing various stores including National Tea and A&P before retiring. He then enjoyed working in the maintenance department for School District 205, for a number of years taking care of the boilers.
Dale enjoyed bowling and was an avid golfer, enjoying and participating in leagues in both sports. He was a lifelong St. Louis Cardinal Baseball fan and rarely missed watching or listening to one of their games.
Graveside services are scheduled for 11 am Friday at Oak Lawn Memorial Gardens. Rev. Ron Scarlett will officiate. There will be no visitation. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the First Church of the Nazarene. Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel is in charge of arrangements. Online condolences may be made at www.h-p-w.com.
