Edith L. Andrews, 88, formerly of 909 W. Monmouth St., Abingdon, died at 10:20 am Saturday, November 20, 2010 at the Care Center of Abingdon.
She was born on December 5, 1921 in Warren County, the daughter of Clarence and Mary (Winchell) Griffith. She married Robert E. Andrews on June 7, 1941 in Palmyra, Missouri. He preceded her in death on May 2, 2010. She was also preceded in death by her parents and one brother, Dale "Dick" Griffith.
Edith is survived by two sons, Robert L. (and Sherry) Andrews of Galesburg and Craig (and Joann) Andrews of Abingdon; one sister, Leona Hoschek of Burlington, Iowa; four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her special roommate at the Care Center, Bertha Burgess.
She graduated from Abingdon High School in 1939. She had lived in Abingdon most of her life. She was a member of the Abingdon Christian Church. She worked at Maytag in Galesburg for 30 years and later at Hy-Vee in Galesburg for 5 years. She was a charter member of the Abingdon Pottery Club, past member of the Grandmother’s Club, charter member of the Hummel Club and a member of the Abingdon Historical Society. Funeral service will be at 11:00 am Wednesday, November 24, 2010 at the Hinchliff-Pearson-West Abingdon Chapel. Rev. Darryl McDaniel, Rev. Melody Andrews and Mrs. Eleanor Landon will officiate. Burial will follow in the Abingdon Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm Tuesday at the chapel.
