VIRGINIA LEE STOCKTON, age 84, of Galesburg, Illinois formerly of Knoxville, Illinois died at 5:55 PM on Monday, November 22, 2010 at OSF St. Mary Medical Center in Galesburg, Illinois.

She was born on September 8, 1926 in Orion, Illinois, the daughter of Jackson Lee and Alice Johnson Stout.

She married Thomas Stockton on March 6, 1945 in Orion, Illinois. After 54 years of marriage, her husband preceded her in death in August 1999. Other family members who preceded her in death are her parents, two sisters and three brothers.

Surviving are:
Daughters: Constance "Connie" Stockton of Galesburg, Illinois, Jacqueline (Robert) Miener of Galesburg, Illinois
Grandchildren: Ashley (Tyler) Philippi of Chicago, Illinois, Lindsey Miener of Minneapolis, Minnesota, Nicholas Miener of Bellingham, Washington,
Sister: Ruth Shattuck of Andover, Illinois

She was raised and educated in Orion, Illinois and graduated with a nursing degree from Carl Sandburg College in Galesburg, Illinois. Not only was she a nurse for 31 years at the Knox County Nursing Home in Knoxville, Illinois but she was a wife, mother, grandmother, and caretaker of her family and friends for over sixty years.

Virginia's was famous for her many recipes in life. Some may have thought that her most sought after recipe was her decadent homemade fudge or even her scalloped potatoes. However, most of her loved ones knew that her best recipe was her never-ending love, kindness, and smiles that she whipped up every day for those surrounding her.

To celebrate Virginia's life, please join family and friends at Hurd Hendricks Funeral Home in Knoxville, Illinois. Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, November 27, 2010 at 2:00 PM. Visitation beginning at 12:00, noon. David Pedersen is officiating. Burial will follow at Knoxville Cemetery in Knoxville, Illinois. Memorials may be made to the Foundation for Educational Excellence For The Knoxville Public School or to the Friends of Knox County Nursing Home.
