Peterson, Clarence O.
Clarence O. Peterson, 95, of Rio, IL, died Saturday November 27, 2010 at Seminary Manor in Galesburg, IL. Services are 11:30 AM Wednesday at Bethany Lutheran Church in Woodhull. Burial is in the Linwood Cemetery, Galesburg where graveside Military Services will be conducted. Visitation is from 10:00 AM until time of services at the Church where Memorials may be left to Bethany Lutheran Church. He was born August 25, 1915 in Keosauqua, IA a son of Oscar and Anna Nelson Peterson. He graduated from Alpha High School and married Marjorie M. Hanson April 9, 1939 in Woodhull. She died in 2000.

He worked on the family farm until taking a position in 1942 as Patrolman with the Illinois State Police. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy during WW2 and returned to the State Police Force following the War. In 1949 he went to work as a bookkeeper in Galesburg and returned to farming in 1951 where he continued farming in the New Windsor area until retiring and moving to Rio in 1981.

He was a member of the Bethany Lutheran Church in Woodhull and the Rio Masonic Lodge # 685.

Survivors include 2 sons, Larry Peterson of New Windsor, IL, Roger (Carol) Peterson of Galena, Il, 6 grandchildren, Sherry, Brad, Angie, Abby, Chris and Kim, 6 great grandchildren, 2 sisters, Ruby Swanson and Marie Colburn both of Galesburg, Il, and several nieces and nephews.

His parents, wife, 1 son Gary and his wife Susan Peterson, 2 great grandsons Sam and Cody and 2 sisters, Helen Peterson and Frances Malmberg preceded him in death.
