|Donald L. Whitcomb, 90 of North Henderson, IL, died at 5:11 P.M. Sunday, November 28, 2010 at his home.
He was born November 20, 1920 in rural Woodhull, IL, the son of Lavern and Mabel (Shetler) Whitcomb. He was raised and educated in Woodhull and graduated from Woodhull High School in 1939.
Donald served with the United States Army during World War II in the South Pacific from 1943-1945.
Donald married Ethlyn Vivian Meeker on January 24, 1953 in Cambridge, IL and she survives.
He worked at Admiral and Maytag in Galesburg, retiring in 1985. He enjoyed bowling and had participated in many bowling leagues and tournaments. Don and Ethlyn traveled many miles on their motocycle.
He was a member of the North Henderson United Methodist Church.
His family includes his wife; two sons, Gary Whitcomb of North Henderson and Danny (Shannon) Whitcomb of Bushnell, IL, one daughter Becky Rogers of Ft. Lufton, Colorado, four grandchildren, four great grandchildren, along with nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother.
Graveside funeral services and burial will be 11:30 A.M. Thursday, December 2, 2010 in Mt. Vernon Cemetery, North Henderson with Rev. Lee Savage of the North Henderson United Methodist Church. Friends may call after on Thursday morning, December 2, at Hoover-Hall Memorial Chapel, Alexis, where his family will receive friends from 10:00 A.M. until 11:00 A.M. prior to the graveside service. Memorial may be left for Alexis-North Henderson Ambulance Service.
