Gorham, Charles Blaine
Charles Blaine Gorham, 96, formerly of Paradise Acres, Lake Bracken, died at 1:11 a.m., Thursday, November 25, 2010. He was born October 19, 1914 in Winfield, Iowa, the son of Ralph and Gladys Gorham.

Blaine married Roberta Short on December 26, 1940 in Galesburg, Ill. She preceded him in death on March 29, 2010. Surviving are three sons, Mike (Mary) Gorham of Denver, Colo., Peter (Judy) Gorham of Galesburg, and Bill (Leeann) Gorham of Eureka, Mont.; five grandchildren; five great grandchildren; a brother and sister-in-law, Hugh and Phyllis Arnold of Greeley, Colo.; nieces and great nephews and nieces.
Blaine started a Venetian blind business in Galesburg in 1943 which evolved into Blaine Gorham Carpeting. His carpets, draperies and floor coverings found homes in thousands of residences in Galesburg and the neighboring community over the next 30 plus years. He was an innovator in retail sales in Galesburg.

Blaine was involved in all aspects of the community throughout his life. He started the first Civil Rights encounter group in the sixties; he was a lifelong member of the First Presbyterian Church, serving as a Deacon and later President of the Council of Churches. Blaine was the oldest living member of Galesburg Rotary at the time of his death.

Roberta and Blaine owned a home on Gull Lake in Minnesota and spent six months there every year for 35 years. Blaine loved fishing and taught all his grandchildren and many others how to fish. He and Roberta traveled extensively throughout the country and the world, including Africa and most of Europe.

Blaine died peacefully in his sleep at Seminary Manor on Thanksgiving Day. He was a gentle soul, who loved people and loved to tell a story.

Funeral will be 10:30 a.m. Friday December 3, 2010 at First Presbyterian Church in Galesburg. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, December 2, 2010 at Hinchliff- Pearson- West Galesburg Chapel. Memorials may be made to Galesburg Rescue Mission or First Presbyterian Church.
