|James L. Norman, 74, of 2171 McMaster Avenue, died at home at 11 a.m., Saturday, November 27, 2010.
James was born September 3, 1936 in Burlington, Iowa, the son of Leo Norman and Anna Marie Wasson Norman. He was raised in Burlington before moving to Galesburg.
He is survived by two sons, Michael Norman currently stationed at Travis Air Force Base in Calif. and Martin Short of Galesburg, a daughter, Nancy Short Pfeiffer currently stationed at McGuire Air Force Base in N.J., a sister, Judith Norman of Galesburg, a nephew, Mathew Norman of Abingdon and 10 grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Marcie Maria Norman.
James attended Galesburg High School, graduating in 1954. He worked at the Maytag Corporation for 42 years, retiring in 1998.
James was an avid sports fan and loved the Chicago Bears and playing golf. He enjoyed model trains, airplanes and tanks. He loved to read and did write some poetry. He played the trombone and was a member of the National Honor Society. He also loved to restore Lincoln Continental Cars.
Visitation will be 6 to 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, December 2, 2010 at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel. Cremation will follow visitation. A private family service will be held at a later date. Memorials may be made to the Shriners Hospital.
