Arlene Nelson, 86, of Galesburg, passed away at 4 a.m. Wednesday, November 24, 2010 in Marigold Health Care Center.
She was born November 15, 1924 in Piper City, Ill., the daughter of Wallace and Ruth Weakman Essington. She married Raymond "Bud" Nelson in June 1946 in Piper City. She is survived by three sons, Alan of Galesburg, Steve of Arvada, Colo., and Mark of Tempe, Ariz., and a grandson, Jeremiah of Tempe. She was preceded in death by her parents, a brother, Robert Essington, half brother, Lavan Essington and a nephew, Walter Essington.
Arlene worked as a legal secretary for 19 years, retiring in 1995. She graduated from Piper City High School in 1942. She was of the Methodist faith.
Arlene was a member of a bridge club, was an avid reader, and enjoyed puzzles and crossword puzzles. She will be deeply missed by her family and friends.
In celebration of her life, visitation will be 6 to 7:30 p.m. Thursday, December 2, 2010 at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel. Burial will be Friday in Brenton Cemetery in Piper City. Memorials may be made to charity of the donor's choice. Online condolences may be made at www.h-p-w.com. |
