Allgeyer, Clarence Eugene
Clarence E. "Jiggs" Allgeyer, 80, of Alexis, died at 2:27 PM Wednesday, November 09, 2011, at his home.

He was born August 18th, 1931 in North Henderson Township, Mercer County Illinois, the son of Jack and Lois (Devlin) Allgeyer. He was raised and educated in North Henderson and Alexis and graduated from Alexis High School in 1948.

Jiggs married Betty Hanna on May 30th , 1953 in Alexis.

He had worked at Admiral, Oscar Mayer, Rowe Manufacturing and then started his own business, Jiggs Cardinal Inn, which he ran from 1965 till the present. A local landmark, the Inn that survived the Shanghai Tornado of 1865, was later put on runners and moved by horses to Alexis. He was also very well known for his delicious crème puffs of which he made thousands over a period of two decades.

He was a member of St. Theresa's Catholic Church in Alexis.

His family includes Betty Allgeyer of Galesburg, two daughters, Steph (Rob) Elliott and Lyndi (Steve Purchase) Allgeyer both of Cameron, one brother David (Pam) Allgeyer of Palmyra, Wisconsin, six grandchildren, Erik Elliott of Paris, France, Farrah (Tony) Gagliano of Roscoe, IL, Jared (Jessica) Elliott of Chicago, IL, Dr. Robbie (Leslie) Elliott of Vilanova, Pennsylvania, B.J. (Jen) Allgeyer of Alexis, IL and Gina (Tim) Meister of Charleston, IL, nine great grandchildren, Hannah Gagliano, Delaney Meister, Jaden Elliott, Hudson Meister, Jack Allgeyer, Lyla Gagliano, Annika Allgeyer, Luke Elliott and Mason Elliott.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one son, Brian Allgeyer and an infant brother.

Mass of the Christian Burial will be 10:00 A.M. Tuesday, November 15, 2011 at St. Theresa's Catholic Church, Alexis. Burial will be in Mount Vernon Cemetery, North Henderson. Friends may call after 2:00 P.M. on Monday, November 13, 2011 at Hoover-Hall Memorial chapel, Alexis where his family will be present from 5:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M.
