Bacher, George D.
George D. (Hasselbacher) Bacher, age 86, of Washington, Illinois died on Thursday, November 10, 2011 at Washington Christian Village in Washington, Illinois.

He was born on April 5, 1925 in Rushville, Illinois the son of George D. and Helga Carlson Hasselbacher. He was raised and educated in Galesburg, Illinois, graduating from the Galesburg High School in 1943 and Bradley University in 1950. He married Joyce Young on September 2, 1951 at the First Christian Church in Galesburg, Illinois. she preceded him in death on July 5, 2007.

Surviving is a sister, Sarah Mabry of Peoria, Illinois and a brother, James E. (Brenda) Hasselbacher of Galesburg, Illinois. Several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, one sister, Helen Sandburg, one brother, Charles Hasselbacher, and a niece A'lory Young Borstad.

He served in the United States Navy during World War II, enlisting on August 6, 1943, Chicago, Illinois until he was honorably discharged on March 12, 1946 at Great Lakes, Illinois. He received the World War II Victory Ribbon, Asiatic-Pacific Ribbon 8 stars, Philippine Liberation Ribbon 1 star and the American Are Ribbon.

He enjoyed bowling for many years at Northgate lanes in Galesburg and was an avid CUBS fan, watching the ballgames in his Cubs jersey and hat.

George enjoyed the last three years as a resident of the Grand Victorian of Washington where he made many friends both of the residents and the staff and will be missed by all.

Cremation Rites will be accorded. Private Graveside Service will be held on November 26, 2011 at the Funks Grove Cemetery in rural McLean County along with that of the love of his life Joyce Young Bacher.
