|Ann Veronica Matson, age 101, died on November 28, 2011, at Hawthorne Inn in Galesburg, Illinois. Ann was born on October 17, 1910, in Deer Grove, Illinois, the daughter of John and Anna McGuire.
She married Carl Olaf Matson on August 11, 1939, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Sterling, Illinois, and he preceded her in death on October 5, 1998. They were devoted to each other, their children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. They also enjoyed socializing with good friends, especially dancing and playing pinochle. After Carl's death, she lived at the Kensington and made many good friendships there. For the last year and a half she lived at Hawthorne Inn where she was treated tenderly.
She is survived by a son, Jay Matson and his wife Mary of Galesburg; two daughters, Carol Hurley and her husband Robert of Alton; and Jane Pica and her husband Jerry of Champaign; and 11 grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren, andmany nieces.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, sister Helen Swain and grandson Nicholas Pica.
She was a loving daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother and friend, appreciated for her sweet nature and kindness.
Visitation will be 7 to 8 pm on Wednesday at Watson Funeral Home, with the rosary being prayed at 6:30 p.m. A funeral Mass will be held at 10 am on Thursday at Corpus Christi Catholic Church, Galesburg. Burial will be in Dixon, Illinois. Memorials may be made to Corpus Christi Catholic Church, Immaculate Heart Catholic Church, or Hospice Compassus, Galesburg.
