|Mr. Lyle S. Clague, 86, of Galesburg, Ill., died at 12:01 am Tuesday, November 19, 2013 in Marigold Health Care Center.
He was born March 28, 1927 in LaFayette, Ill. the son of LeRoy B. and Lulu Christine Olson Clague. He married D. Jean Parkinson on June 8, 1947 at the First United Methodist Church, Galesburg. She survives.
Also surviving are two sons, W. Stewart (Lynn) Clague of Vero Beach, Fla. and David L. (Debbie) Clague of Galesburg; two daughters, S. Jane (Bill) DuBois of Laura, Ill., Amy J. (Tim) Robbins of Victoria, Ill.; one brother, Paul Edward Clague of Galesburg; two granddaughters, Michelle Clague of Phoenix, Ariz. and Jesse (Kenneth) Wakefield of Vero Beach, Fla. and two step grandsons, Cody and Justin Basham; one great grandson, Evan Wakefield. He is preceded in death by his parents, a brother and a sister.
He served in the US Navy for two years during WWII in the Pacific Theatre as a fireman 2/C.
Lyle worked at Burlington Truck Lines as a mechanic and assistant manager of equipment for 25 years. He was a field manager for Snap on Tools for 13 years and Ken Company for 7 years selling tools. He retired in 1993. He graduated from Oneida High School in 1945 and attended a year at Western Illinois University. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church. He enjoyed photography, birds and flowers and refinishing furniture. He was a volunteer for Cottage Corners and made crafts for the church. He loved spending time with his family and friends.
A Memorial Service is scheduled for 11 am Friday at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel. Pastor Mary Runge will officiate. There will be no visitation. Memorials may be made to Hospice Compassus. Cremation will be accorded. Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel is assisting the family with arrangements. Online condolences may be offered at www.h-p-w.com
