Landis, Irene B.
Irene B. Landis, 94, 311 E. Simmons St., Galesburg, died at 4:45 PM Thursday, December 3, 2009 in Marigold Health Care Center.

She was born December 5, 1914 in St. David, IL, the daughter of Carl and Grace Toncray Bowman. She married George D. Donaldson in 1938 in Knoxville, IL. He preceded her in death on October 11, 1971. She later married Howard B. Landis in 1975 in Galesburg. He preceded her in death on March 13, 2002.

She is survived by 2 step sons, Scott Landis of Lake Oswego, OR and James Landis of Houston, TX, 2 nephews, Mike Sirotka of Houston and John P. May of Anaheim, CA, and 3 step grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a brother, George Bowman in December 2002, a sister, Lola Bowman in October 2002, and a niece, Susan Sirotka in April 2003.

Irene was a registered nurse, who worked at Galesburg Cottage Hospital for 26 years and at St. Mary Medical Center for 5 years before retiring in 1977. She graduated from Knoxville High School in 1932, from Knox College in 1936, and earned her Masters Degree in Nursing from Yale University in 1943.

Irene was a member of Grace Church (Anglican) in Galesburg. She was also a member of Delta Delta Delta, the Knox College Alumni Association, Knox Lombard 50 Year Club, Yale Club of Chicago, the Newcomer Alumni, and the Soangetaha Country Club. Irene was an honorary member of the Galesburg Cottage Hospital School of Nursing Alumni. She enjoyed playing Bridge and had been a member of several duplicate bridge clubs over the years.

Cremation will be accorded. Memorial service will be 10:30 AM Saturday, December 12, 2009 in Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel. The Rev. Thomas Janikowski will officiate. Visitation will be one hour prior to service. Burial will be in Knoxville Cemetery.
