|Benjamin Miles Swanson, 81, of 2221 140th St. Cameron, IL died at 9:30 AM Tuesday December 22, 2009 in Heartland Healthcare Center.
He was born April 2, 1928 in Andover, IL the son of Nels August and Alice Mae Dora Bergstrom Swanson. He married Betty Louise Peterson in Coldbrook on March 4, 1955. She survives.
Also surviving is a daughter Jane (Gary) Spence of Monmouth, IL; a daughter-in-law Kristine Swanson of Cameron, IL; and three grandchildren Megan (Sam) Sarver, Tracy (Andy) Engstrom and Bryan (Jackie) Spence and three great grandchildren Reagan, Jackson, and Colton Spence. He is preceded in death by his parents, a son Jeffrey Swanson on September 10, 2006, three brothers and three sisters.
He served as a Corporal in the Army from December 11, 1950 to September 10, 1952 in the 2nd Infantry Division in Korea.
Benjamin worked as a farmer and was a member of the Warren County Farm Bureau. He was a member of the Coldbrook Christian Church, where he served as a deacon and was a member of the Property Committee. He also was a charter member of the Pairs & Spares Sunday School class. Ben was a 57 year member of the Ralph M. Noble American Legion Post 285.
Funeral services are scheduled for 10:00 AM Monday December 28, 2009 at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel. The Revs. Tim Johnson and Paul Lydic will officiate. Visitation will be 2:00-4:00 PM Sunday at the chapel. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery with Military Rites by Ralph M. Noble American Legion Post 285.
