|Randolph D. "Randy" Godsil, age 62, of Oak Run, Dahinda, Illinois formerly of Knoxville, Illinois, died on Saturday, December 26, 2009 at 1:23 P.M. at OSF St. Mary Medical Center in Galesburg, Illinois. He was born on May 10, 1947 in Galesburg, Illinois, the son of Raymond Dean "Swanee" and Elizabeth Catherine Essex Godsil. He married Barbara J. Gronewold in July 1995 in Freeport, Illinois. She survives in Oak Run, Dahinda, Illinois.
Also surviving are two sons, Russell Darrin Godsil of Jacksonville, Florida (son of Rebecca E. Uhlman) and Roger Duane Godsil of Galesburg, Illinois (son of Rebecca E. Uhlman); one stepson, Michael D. (Clarissa) Thompson of Largo, Florida; four grandchildren; five step grandchildren; four sisters, Rosalie (Joe) Burgess of Knoxville, Illinois, Rebecca (David) Ruetz of Sycamore, Illinois, Rhonda (Steve) Sanford-Murmann of Monmouth, Illinois and Renee (Mark) Tadie of Alexis, Illinois; three brothers, Dr. Raymond (Judy) Godsil, Jr of Auburn, Alabama, Richard (Marcia) Godsil of Gardner, Kansas and Robin (Sharon) Godsil of Monmouth, Illinois and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother: Rodney "Hot Rod" Godsil.
He was raised and educated in Knoxville, Illinois graduating from the Knoxville High School in 1965. He served in the United States Army from 1966 until 1968 during the Vietnam Era as a pending missile crewman. He worked at the former Gale Products in Galesburg, Illinois as a punch press operator; Burlington Northern Railroad from 1971 until 1986 as an engineer; owned and operated Godsil Insurance Agency for 28 years; sold real estate for Cooley II Real Estate Agency and was a bus driver for the Knoxville Community Unit School District # 202 in Knoxville, Illinois. He was a member of the Knoxville United Methodist Church; Pacific Masonic Lodge # 66, AF & AM of Knoxville, Illinois for 31 years; Harry Philblad American Legion Post # 749 of Knoxville, Illinois for 41 years and served as commander from 1988 to 1989; Mohammed Shriners of North America Lodge # 8032 of Bartonville, Illinois and a past member of the Knoxville Fire Department. He was an avid Illini, Chicago Bears and Chicago Bulls fan. He enjoyed cooking at the Fire Department, Church and the American Legion. He treasured his family and friends.
Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday, December 30, 2009 at 10:30 A.M. at the Hurd Hendricks Funeral Home and Crematory in Knoxville, Illinois. Rev. Tom Heather officiating. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, December 29, 2009 from 3:00 until 7:00 P.M. at the Funeral Home in Knoxville, Illinois. Burial in Knoxville Cemetery in Knoxville, Illinois with Military Rites by the Ralph M. Noble American Legion Post # 285 of Galesburg, Illinois. In-lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the family to be distributed to several charities.
