Thurman, Jeffrey N.
Jeffrey N. "Jeff" Thurman, 61, of Galesburg and formerly of Abingdon, died Tuesday morning, December 29, 2009, in Rock Island County, IL.

He was born on October 22, 1948 in Canton, IL to Wilber "Webb" and Eleanor (Bishop) Thurman. He married Mary Melvin in August of 1966. She preceded him in death on September 2, 1973. He married Gerry Kraft. He later married Marty Bleyaert on May 13, 1995 in Galesburg.

Jeff is survived by his wife, Marty; children, Shelley (and Bob) Bullock of Peoria, Sherry (and Steve) Healey of Galesburg, Brian (and Julie) Thurman of Baton Rouge, Louisiana, Jennifer Thurman of Galesburg, Tonia Schwartzkopf of Monmouth and Troy Bleyaert of Galesburg; 13 grandchildren and one on the way; 5 great-grandchildren; his mother, Eleanor Thurman of Abingdon; his sisters, Connie Siedel of Abingdon, Sandra (and Cecil) Ruggles of London Mills and Cathy Thomas of Abingdon; and nephews, nieces and great nieces and great nephews.

He was also preceded in death by his father and one grandson.

He grew up in the London Mills and Abingdon areas. He graduated from Valley High School. He was a truck driver "highway engineer" with a million miles without an accident. He currently worked for USF Holland Atlanta, IL terminal. He had lived in Galesburg the past 22 years.

Jeff was a member of Teamsters Local #916. He was also a die hard Chicago Cubs fan, Bears fan, avid golfer, and NASCAR fan with Jeff Gordon being his favorite driver.

Funeral service will be held at 1:00 pm Saturday, January 2, 2010 at the Hinchliff-Pearson-West Abingdon Chapel. Mrs. Eleanor Landon will officiate. Burial will be in the Abingdon Cemetery. Visitation will be from 11:00 am until 1:00 pm Saturday at the chapel.

Family and friends are invited to the Abingdon American Legion following the service for a luncheon.
