Snodgrass, Frances
Frances D. Snodgrass, 92, of 261 N. Linwood Road, Galesburg, died at 7:25 p.m. Monday, December 13, 2010 in Seminary Manor.

She was born March 10, 1918 in Maquon, Ill., the daughter of Royal and Edith Sherman Burkhalter.

She is survived by two sons, Michael (and Carol) Snodgrass of Lakewood, Colo., and Joseph (and Robin) Snodgrass of Burlington, N.J. two grandchildren, Casey and Kimberly; three sisters, Marjorie Kulie of Detroit, Mich., Beverly Kilgore of Galesburg, and Betty (and Don) Milroy of Moline, Ill., a brother, Raymond (and Maxine) Rambo of Galesburg, and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Harold Snodgrass on March 7, 1995, her parents, a brother, Gerald Burkhalter, and a sister, Geraldine Burkhalter.

Frances was born and raised on a farm near Maquon and lived for a short time in Denver as a child. She returned to Illinois and graduated from Maquon High School in 1936. She moved to Galesburg where she met her husband and they were married in Palmyra, Mo. on November 5, 1941. She accompanied her husband to numerous posts during his military career including, Tokyo, Japan after World War II, Camp Cook, Calif., and Fort Lewis, Wash. during the Korean War. She returned to Galesburg after the Korean War where she was active in the Cooke and Mary Allen West Elementary Schools Parent Teacher Associations. She was a member and active in the Galesburg First United Methodist Church. She also was a member of the National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution. She enjoyed her sons and daughters-in-law, grandchildren, relatives, numerous friends, extended church family, and Woodridge friends during her later life.

Funeral will be 10:30 AM Tuesday December 21, 2010 at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel. Rev. Marilyn Anell will officiate. Visitation will be 9:30 to 10:30 AM at the chapel. Burial will be in Oak Lawn Memorial Gardens. Memorials may be made to First United Methodist Church. Online condolences may be made at www.h-p-w.com.
