|Roy E. Steck, 94, of 826 Knox Rd 1850 N, Galesburg, Ill., died at 12:35 a.m. Thursday, December 30, 2010 at OSF St. Mary Medical Center, Galesburg.
He was born July 17, 1916 in Willow Hill, Pa. to John and Goldie Dalton Steck. He married Anna J. Lundeen April 25, 1948 in Galesburg. She survives.
Also surviving are two sons, Jerry (and Pat) Steck of Rio, Ill. and John Steck of Jefferson City, Mo., a daughter, Nancy (and Joe) Bishop of Jackson, Mo., a sister, Hazel Aydelott of London Mills, Ill., nine grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, five brothers and four sisters.
Roy worked for the former Outboard Marine Corporation, Gale Product Division for several years and retired in 1979. He graduated from London Mills High School. He served in the US Army during World War II. He served with the 45th Division of the American Seventh Army in Germany. He was awarded the Bronze Star Medal for heroic achievement while serving with Service Battery, 189th Field Artillery Battalion. He was also awarded the EAME service ribbon with five battle stars. Roy loved his family and his grandchildren. He enjoyed gardening and was an avid Galesburg High School basketball fan and St. Louis Cardinals fan. He was a member of the American Legion Post # 285. He was a former member of Trinity Lutheran Church and attended First Church of God, Galesburg.
Funeral service will be 1 p.m. Monday, January 3, 2011 at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel. Rev. Rocky Tallent will officiate. Visitation will be 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday, January 2, 2011 at the chapel. Burial will be in Maquon Cemetery, Maquon, Ill. with military rites by the Ralph M. Noble American Legion Post #285.
