Ruth V. Arling, 99, of Batavia, Ill., formerly of Galesburg, Ill., died at 8:55 p.m. Tuesday, November 15, 2011 in Michealsen Health Center in Batavia.
She was born July 26, 1912 in Galesburg, the daughter of Nels and Anna Augusta Nelson Anderson. She married Richard L. Arling on December 6, 1941 in Galesburg. He preceded her in death on September 29, 1986.
She is survived by a daughter, Cynthia (and John) Liljegren of Portland, Ore. and two grandsons, Todd Liljegren and Kyle Liljegren. She was also preceded in death by her parents and a daughter, Jean Elizabeth Arling in 1952.
Ruth was a homemaker and helped her husband in several businesses. She was raised and educated in Galesburg, graduating from Galesburg High School. In 1953, the family moved to Phoenix, Ariz. for Richard’s health. Ruth moved to Batavia in 1992, where she was a member of the Covenant Church. She was an accomplished pianist and church organist, playing for the Covenant Church in Phoenix for nearly 40 years and continued to play at The Holmstad.
Cremation has been accorded. Graveside service will be 1 p.m. Friday, December 2, 2011 in East Linwood Cemetery in Galesburg with Rev. Thomas Ek officiating. Memorial service will be Tuesday, December 20, 2011 at 2 p.m. at The Holmstad in Batavia. Memorials may be made to The Holmstad, 700 W. Fabyan Pkwy., Batavia, IL 60510.
