Thurman, Roger L.
Roger L. Thurman, 65, of 104 Galesburg Road, Knoxville, Ill., died at 7:51 a.m. Saturday, December 17, 2011 in Galesburg Cottage Hospital.

He was born June 26, 1946 in Maquon, Ill. the son of John and Thelma M. McGee Thurman. He married Linda M. Sargeant on June 22, 1968 in Galesburg.

He is survived by his wife, Linda; a son, Brian D. Thurman of Knoxville; a daughter, Melissa R. Sundquist of Abingdon, Ill.; an adopted daughter, Dawn Rice of Abingdon; five grandchildren, Kaine and Kylie Sundquist, Ty Thurman, Kolbe Hightower, and Chanda Rice; a brother, David (and Shirley) Thurman of Farmville, Va.; three sisters, Ruth (and Dean) Kelso of Maquon, Leona (and Ron) Wallace of La., and Alice Roming of Texas; a sister-in-law, Pat Thurman of St. Augustine, Ill.; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Ernie Thurman; and two sisters, Millie Boulton and Linda Boyd.

Roger was a supervisor for Maytag Corporation in Galesburg for 38 1/2 years, retiring August 31, 2001. He attended Knoxville High School and had lived in the Knoxville and Galesburg areas his entire life.

Roger enjoyed bowling, scoring a perfect 300 game in November of 2000. He also enjoyed fishing, playing cards, and attending his grandchildren's activities. Roger was a die hard Chicago Bears and Cubs fan as well as Notre Dame.

He served in the United States Army from 1965 to 1967 during the Vietnam War.
Funeral will be 10 a.m. Wednesday, December 21, 2011 in Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel. Sharon Amick will officiate and military rites will be provided by Ralph M. Noble American Legion Post 285. Visitation will be 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at the chapel. Cremation will be accorded following the funeral with burial later in Oak Lawn Memorial Gardens.
