|Robert K. Fritz, 83, of Galesburg, died at 6:20 a.m. Tuesday, December 20, 2011 in Rosewood Care Center.
He was born May 5, 1928 in Wataga, Ill., the son of Edgar and Esther Lundeen Fritz. He married Phyllis A. Johns in 1956 in Princeton, Ill.
He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Phyllis; two sons, Kenneth J. Johnson of Washington, D.C. and Robert D. Fritz of Galesburg; a daughter, Joyce L. Zuercher of Galesburg; four grandchildren, Hilary Fritz, Jessica Fritz, Tobias Zuercher, and Michelle Mackey; and two sisters, Dorothy Brown and Mary Switzer. He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Dee Ann Mackey; two grandchildren, Jennifer Mackey and Benjamin Fritz; two brothers, Paul Fritz and LaVerne Fritz; and two sisters, Faye Cummings and Leona Whitaker.
Robert was an ironworker with the Peoria local for many years, retiring in 1993. He enjoyed bowling and was a member of Ralph M. Noble American Legion Post 285.
He served in the United States Army from 1950 to 1952 in Korea. He transferred to the Army Reserves in 1952 until being discharged in 1956. He was a Sergeant First Class.
Cremation will be accorded. The family is planning a celebration of life gathering at his son Bob's house. Memorials may be made to Knox County Humane Society.
