|Lois D. Baker, age 87 of Abingdon, died at 8:46 pm Sunday, December 2, 2012 at Galesburg Cottage Hospital.
She was born on June 30, 1925 on the family farm in Warren County, the daughter of Ralph and Irene (Johnson) Hallbick. She married Ernest W. Baker on September 25, 1949 in Warren County. He preceded her in death on October 17, 1992. She was also preceded in death by her parents and one sister, Reta Louise Hallbick, who died as a young child.
Lois is survived by one daughter, Suzanne (and Tom) Beil of Abingdon; one son, Steven Baker of Abingdon; four grandchildren, Rob & Jamie Beil of Abingdon, Ryan (and Katie) Beil of Watertown, New York, Rikki (and JC) Long of Abingdon and Haley Baker of Crestview, Florida; and six great-grandchildren, Shelby and Eddie Beil, Chloe and Evan Beil, Rory and Miles Long.
She graduated from Abingdon High School in 1943 and later graduated from Brown's Business College in Galesburg. She worked at the Abingdon Blue Bell and later as a secretary at Byrd's Reliable Insurance Agency and Russell Reese State Farm Insurance and she last worked as the secretary at the superintendent's office for Abingdon School District #217, retiring in 1987.
She enjoyed her pets, playing card games, reading, bird watching, and spending time with her grandchildren.
Graveside service will be held at 10:30 am Thursday, December 6, 2012 at the Abingdon Cemetery. Rev. Bob Malone will officiate. There will be no visitation. Hinchliff-Pearson-West Abingdon Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
