Ruehmer, Terry Lee
Terry Lee Ruehmer, 58, of Galesburg, died at 8:30 a.m. Thursday, December 6, 2012 at home surrounded by his family.

He was born January 4, 1954 in Elmhurst, Ill. the son of Gustav Carl and June V. Harrison Ruehmer. He married Melissa Lee Morehead December 18, 1976 at First Baptist Church in Westchester, Ill.

He is survived by his wife, Melissa Morehead Ruehmer of Galesburg; a son, Adam Lee (and fiancée Dana Cole) Ruehmer of Sherman Oaks, Calif.; a daughter, Katie Beth (and husband Captain Bradley) Denisar of Alexandria, Va.; his mother, June V. Ruehmer of Aurora, Ill.; a brother, K.C. (and wife Thea) Ruehmer of Batavia, Ohio; a sister, Peggy (and husband Dale) Lorenz of St. Charles, Ill.; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father.

Terry grew up in Berkeley, Ill., graduating from Proviso West High School in 1972. He graduated from Illinois State University in May 1976. Terry earned a certificate in piano tuning and repair from the Chautauqua Institute in New York. Terry was the vocal music teacher for grades 1-12 at ROWVA School District #208 for 34 years, retiring in May 2010. He was well known for his elementary Christmas programs and high school musicals. He also worked as a piano tuner and technician and was the director of Choral Dynamics of Galesburg since 1982, directing 57 shows. Terry was a member of First United Methodist Church in Galesburg, where he went on many youth and adult mission trips. He was a lifelong Chicago Cubs fan and enjoyed family trips to the Cubs spring training camp in Arizona. Terry enjoyed woodworking, was a musician, and sang with the Franklin Grove Jazz Ensemble. He was a member of the Illinois Music Educators Association and the Illinois Education Association.

Visitation will be 2 to 5 p.m. Saturday, December 8, 2012 at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel. Funeral will be 3 p.m. Sunday at First United Methodist Church with Rev. Melva England officiating. Private family burial will be in East Linwood Cemetery on Monday. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Choral Dynamics, University of Iowa Hospital's Holden Comprehensive Cancer Center-Patient Care, or CaringBridge.
