|Evelyn R. Goudie, age 91, of Knoxville, Illinois passed away at 4:55 A.M. on Monday, December 17, 2012 at OSF St. Mary Medical Center, Galesburg, Illinois after saying goodnight to her family.
She was born on September 19, 1921 in Marshfield, Missouri, the daughter of Charles F. and Mary D. Hession Tower. She attended and graduated from Marshfield High School in 1939. She then attended and graduated from Beauty College in Lebanon, Missouri. She married William C. "Red" Goudie on February 1, 1941 in Ozark, Missouri. He preceded her in death on July 20, 2012.
Surviving are her children: Bud and Marie of Marshfield, Missouri; Carolyn of Naperville, Illinois; Bill and Lorraine of Darien, Illinois; and Gary and Lynne of Knoxville, Illinois. Nine grandchildren; fourteen great grandchildren; and two great-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband one brother and one sister.
She was a member of the VFW Auxiliary, Harry Philblad American Legion Post #749 Auxiliary; St. Patrick's Alter and Rosary Society and past president. As a child she enjoyed playing the Violin, which her father made for her; bowling and volleyball.
Evelyn was a beautician for over 50 years operating her hair salon out of her home in which she welcomed everyone. She had the perfect cut for everyone.
Red and Evelyn enjoyed many years of traveling in their motor home visiting family and friends.
She loved being surrounded by family and friends and treasured every moment not only in person but in correspondences through letter writing, cards, pictures, notes, or even newspaper clippings as it related to the person she was thinking of.
Whether you call her mom, grammie, great-grandma or just friend, you always got the same special treatment from Evelyn Goudie. She was the one person in every life she touched that could bring a smile to your face simply by recalling her name and envisioning that endearing smile of hers. She could make even the worst times seem not so bad, and the best of times even better. Mom, gammie, great-grandma and friend, your compassion, your tender heart will be greatly missed, but we will never forget the time we shared.
Visitation will be held from 6:00 - 7:30 P.M. with a Rosary Service on Thursday, December 20, 2012 at the Hurd-Hendricks Funeral Homes in Knoxville, Illinois. Funeral Mass will be held on Friday, December 21, 2012 at 10:00 A.M. at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Galesburg, Illinois. Rev. William Miller officiating. Interment will be in the Knoxville Cemetery, Knoxville, Illinois. In-Lieu of Flowers Memorials may be made to St. Patrick's Catholic Church, the Knox County Nursing Home of Knoxville, Illinois, or the Harry Phliblad American Legion Post #749 Auxiliary. Fellowship will be held at the Harry Philblad American Legion in Knoxville, Illinois following the graveside services.
