|William R. Chaney, 89, of Galesburg, passed away at 10:36 p.m. Friday, December 28, 2012 at Hawthorne Inn.
He was born January 11, 1923 in Van Buren County, Iowa, the son of Orville and Elizabeth Radestock Chaney. He married Rella I. Humes on June 22, 1956.
He is survived by two sisters, Hazel Wolf of Keosauqua, Iowa and Donna Ollig of Galesburg; a brother, Bob (and Lucy) Chaney of Elgin, Ill.; and several nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, great-great nieces, and great-great nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; two sisters, Grace Schroeder and Ruth Mavis; three brothers, Donald in infancy, Melvin, and Earl Chaney; and a special friend, Lorraine Haraldson.
William served in the military during the Korean War from 1950 to 1951. He worked for the CB&Q Railroad and then at the Galesburg Post Office as a letter carrier for 31 years. He served as president of the letter carriers' union. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church, where he served as deacon. William enjoyed playing golf, reading, and traveling.
Funeral will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, January 2, 2013 in Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel. Rev. James Ecklund will officiate. Visitation will be 9 to 11 a.m. Wednesday at the chapel.
